Mental health issues among workers are an increasingly recognized concern worldwide, with stress, anxiety, depression, and burnout being common among employees across various sectors. In Taraba State, where agriculture, civil service, and small-scale industries dominate, workers often face mental health challenges that are exacerbated by heavy workloads, inadequate support systems, and a lack of mental health awareness. Despite the growing importance of mental health in the workplace, many workers in Taraba State still lack access to adequate mental health support. This study aims to assess the existing mental health support systems for workers in Taraba State, identify gaps, and suggest strategies for improving mental health care for workers.
In Taraba State, many workers face mental health challenges, but the support systems available are insufficient or underutilized. The stigma surrounding mental health often prevents workers from seeking help, and employers may not prioritize mental health care. Additionally, there are few mental health programs or services tailored to the needs of workers in the region. This study will investigate the extent of mental health issues among workers and evaluate the support systems in place to address these issues, with a focus on identifying the gaps in care and providing recommendations for improvement.
This study will focus on workers in formal and informal sectors in Taraba State. Limitations include the possibility of underreporting of mental health issues due to stigma and the challenge of measuring the effectiveness of support systems that may be underutilized or inadequately resourced.
